FILM WORKS
Thank you for taking my works in film into consideration.
In my existence as an interdisciplinary artist, this body of work bridges my writing practice, filmmaking, painting, and animation.
An ongoing series of 1-minute-or-under shorts, combining poetry and film. This series is intentionally created for mobile devices and platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels and plays with the idea that high frequency internet users currently have an attention span that is so short, they will not watch films longer than 60 seconds.
The poems all revolve around the feelings of love. longing, and belonging. All these emotions are what we seek out when connecting to others through social media, even if we know that what we get in return will only ever be a bad copy of the real thing, an imposter.
Four approximately 1-minute-long short films with accompanying soundtracks, created for Droste Festival 2021. Partially animated, partially filmed, each film corresponds to a location of the festival, the landscape it sits in, and the ways in which it influenced the life and work of 19th century poet Annette Droste. Poetry without utilizing words, confined to the four walls of an apartment, reflecting poems written in often involuntary isolation two centuries before.
Part of an interdisciplinary body of work created for Burg Hülshoff - Center for Literature, this animated short film and sound piece is based on a text by Shumona Sinha. The score is built on a set of samples taken from modern recordings of Droste-Hülshoff's compositions. It is part of the Lyrikweg outdoor museum and can be seen at Rüschhaus, poet and composer Annette Droste-Hülshoff's former residence, in Münster, Germany.
The "Familiar" series explores the idea of finding family / the familiar / a familiar within oneself, as well as a small circle of people not related by blood. The house, the architectural structure is a representation of the self, holding both a void and dense population, the mysterious and unexplored, the shut in and closed off chapters of the self. Where and how do we access it, how do we create entrance points for others? Where is it situated, how is it protected? Each painting of the series is paired with a piece of writing and music that investigates the search for connection and kinship during a time of chaos and disconnect.
